General Evacuation Procedures
All building evacuations will occur when an alarm sounds continuously and/or upon notification by the Ä¢¹½Ä¢¹½ Police Department, administrator, or responsible party.
- Be aware of all the marked exits in your area and building. Know the routes from your work area.
- If necessary or directed to do so by the Ä¢¹½Ä¢¹½ Police Department or other responsible party, activate the building alarms. CAUTION: THE BUILDING ALARMS RING ONLY IN THE BUILDING - YOU MUST CALL 911 TO REPORT THE EMERGENCY.
- When the building evacuation alarms are sounded or when told to leave by the Ä¢¹½Ä¢¹½ Police Department or other responsible party, walk quickly to the nearest marked exit and ask others to do the same.
- ASSIST THE DISABLED IN EXITING THE BUILDING! Remember that elevators are reserved for use only by persons with disabilities. DO NOT USE ELEVATORS IN CASE OF FIRE!
- Once outside, move to a clear area away from the affected building. Keep streets and walkways clear for emergency vehicles and personnel.
- If requested, assist the Ä¢¹½Ä¢¹½ Police Department and/or other responsible party.
- DO NOT RETURN TO AN EVACUATED BUILDING unless directed to do so by the Ä¢¹½Ä¢¹½ Police Department or other responsible party.
WHEN EVACUATING:
- Know the locations of fire alarm pull stations in your area and how to work them.
- Know the locations of all available exits from your area.
- Know the locations of, and how to use, the fire extinguishers in your area.
- If you will need special assistance during an evacuation, please contact the Ä¢¹½Ä¢¹½ Police Department and your direct supervisor to request information regarding Evacuation of People with Disabilities.
